When I created my first Tarot deck in 2013, I was working backwards.
I had written a novel first (See Them Dance), then illustrated it in the style of a Tarot deck. Some very kind people liked what I did—and in response to that I expanded those illustrations into a full working deck: Mme. Loviise’s Tarot of the Zirkus Mägi.
Since then, I’ve created dozens of decks across a wide range of genres, usually building them from the ground up.
But in 2025, I found myself working backwards again.

Tarot and storytelling are deeply connected. Wanting a change, I began a small project—something that started as a Halloween campaign and quickly grew into something much larger. Not just a single story, but a framework for many stories.
A place.
The town of Dreary, Maine.
It grew in words and images, accumulating history, characters, and secrets—enough to keep me busy for years. The Dreary Lenormand was the first piece of it to take physical form.
Now comes the next:
THE DREARY TAROT is coming soon.
My hope is that when you lay out the cards, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a real place—a place where strange things happen, where the shadows have weight, and where the misfits, monsters, and wanderers of the world feel at home.
A place of danger.
A place of possibility.
A place of imagination.
Dreary, Maine opens its doors this summer.
I hope to meet you there. In the meantime, step into THE GHASTLIGHT DISTRICT to start getting acquainted. Dreary, Maine is waiting for you.
